Abstract:

The practice of dowry has long been a deeply entrenched social evil in many cultures, particularly in South Asia. Despite numerous legal interventions aimed at curbing this practice, dowry-related abuses continue to plague societies. This paper provides a socio-legal evaluation of existing legal frameworks addressing dowry, examining their effectiveness, shortcomings, and the socio-cultural factors that hinder their implementation. It also explores potential reforms to strengthen the fight against dowry.
