Abstract:
The design and implementation of a 5G New Radio (NR)-based link adaptation system is critical to meeting the diverse demands of next-generation wireless communications. This paper presents a comprehensive study of the 5G NR link adaptation framework, focusing on its ability to support a wide array of use cases, including enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB), ultra-reliable low-latency communications (URLLC), and massive Machine Type Communications (mMTC). The paper explores key components of the system, such as scalable numerology, dynamic spectrum management, beamforming, and low-latency optimizations, as specified by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). The link adaptation system adapts to varying network conditions by adjusting modulation and coding schemes (MCS) in real time, thereby ensuring optimal performance and efficient resource utilization. In particular, the impact of scalable numerology on system performance is examined, highlighting its role in improving network flexibility. The work also discusses the challenges involved in the real-time adaptation of link parameters and the future research directions necessary to address these challenges. This paper provides valuable insights into the design and optimization of 5G NR link adaptation systems, offering a foundation for future enhancements in wireless communication technologies.
